On Thursday, September 28, we honored our third medal recipient, Walter E. Romeo. Held at Angel Senior Living – Hacienda Villas, Romeo was surrounded by family and friends at the event. It was our privilege to commemorate Romeo and reflect on his service as a member of the US Navy in World War II.
Mr. Romeo was one of the last group of men recruited during WWII, serving in the US Navy from March 1946 to April 1946. He was living in Pennsylvania along with his wife and his two daughters, who were under the age of three when he was drafted. Before being drafted, Mr. Romeo worked in an aluminum factory where they would often make parts or repairs for defense. He was stationed in USS Albermarle and assisted the crew to repair and replace the parts of damaged aircrafts to ensure the men were back in the air.
