Our first medal recipient is veteran George Allison. We held the event Thursday, August 3rd at the Smithtown Center for Rehabilitation in New York with his family and friends in attendance along with fellow members of the Coast Guard. It was an honor to coordinate this special event with the staff of the Smithtown Center, as both Mr. Allison and his family were deeply humbled to receive this award.
Throughout the event, Mr. Allison spoke about his time served during WWII. Mr. George Allison served in the United States Coast Guard as a motor machinist mate, 3rd class, and Mr. Allison led the 5th wave into the Okinawa invasion at the age of 20. If given the option, Mr. Allison says he would have stayed in the military for 20 years instead of 3.
